Unlike skilled nursing facilities, these residences are typically not licensed for intensive medical care.

An assisted living facility (ALF), also known as an assisted living residence, provides a supportive environment similar to retirement homes, specifically designed for older adults. The primary goal is to promote independence while ensuring safety and supervision.

What does it entail?
These communities assist with daily activities of residents, including meal services, housekeeping, and health monitoring.

They coordinate with external healthcare providers to deliver comprehensive care and oversee residents' safety and health. Assistance often involves medication supervision and personal care. Based on the level of help needed, assisted living options are categorized into the following types:

Type I — Basic Assisted Living: Offers 24/7 monitoring with assistance for up to two daily tasks. Usually includes nursing support for medication management.

Type II — Full-Service Assisted Living: Provides complete assistance with daily activities along with general nursing care provided by staff.

Small Healthcare Home: Similar to Type II, but with fewer residents. Operated by an owner or caregiver, these homes provide a cozy, home-like environment with supervised nursing services based on a prescribed plan.
