Key Highlights of the GMC Terrain SUV

The GMC Terrain stands as the smallest model in GMC's lineup. This compact crossover SUV offers five seats and features a sliding second-row bench, enhancing cargo flexibility and passenger comfort compared to many rivals. The latest model showcases updated exterior and interior details, emphasizing modern design and improved functionality.

Popular among consumers, the Terrain faces competition from vehicles like the Subaru Outback, Ford Escape, Hyundai Santa Fe, and is closely related to the Chevrolet Equinox, sharing many features and design elements.

While sharing some similarities with its predecessor, the GMC Terrain maintains close ties to the Chevrolet Equinox but stands out with a more distinctive, polarizing look, including compact, windows into the cargo area. The interior has seen significant upgrades, featuring a leather-wrapped steering wheel and compatibility with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration.

Powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine, the Terrain delivers efficient performance to front-wheel-drive models paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. It produces 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque.

Higher trim levels and all-wheel-drive models offer a 2.0L turbo-4 engine, generating 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, with a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds. Like Chevrolet, GMC pairs this engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission and direct fuel injection to maximize efficiency from its 15.6-gallon fuel tank.

The first introduction of a 1.6L turbo-diesel engine, shared with the Equinox and Cruze, arrives in the Terrain, only available in top trims. This fuel-efficient diesel is matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission, although GMC has not shared official mileage ratings for this engine.
