Explore Alcatraz: Ticket Options and Pricing Details

Discover the rich history of Alcatraz Island through various tour options departing from San Francisco Bay. Once infamous for housing notorious criminals like Al Capone, the island also served as a military fortress and prison. Today, Alcatraz has been restored to showcase its fascinating past. Only Alcatraz Cruises, based at Pier 33 near Fisherman’s Wharf, is authorized to land on the island. Advance booking is recommended, with tickets available up to six weeks prior. Same-day tickets are limited and sell out quickly, often by early morning. The tours include round-trip transportation and audio guides, offering flexible options for visitors.

Tour options include:

Early Bird Tour
The first tour of the day, with fewer crowds. Children under 4 visit for free. Ages 5–11 pay about $22, and juniors 12–17 are approximately $38. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Adults over 18 pay around $38. Senior discounts are available for visitors over 62, reducing the price to about $36. Family packages are offered at roughly $115, available via phone or at Pier 33.

Day Tour
Similar to the Early Bird option in price and inclusions but tends to be busier during the daytime.

Evening Tour
Fewer visitors join at night, creating a quieter experience. Special evening programs showcase the park’s history. Ticket prices range from $42 to $45 for adults and seniors, while children under 5 enter free. No family packages are available for night tours.

Behind the Scenes Tour
Join a small ranger-led group (up to 30 people) to access restricted areas such as tunnels, underground jail cells, and secret doorways. Cost ranges from $84 to $90 for all age groups, including juniors, seniors, and adults.

Tickets for these tours can also be included with the San Francisco City Pass and Go San Francisco Pass, but only if purchased through Alcatraz Cruises.
